Samsung Partners With AMD for Mobile Graphics Tech

Korean giant, , has just made two major announcements involving two different products.

Firstly, Samsung has partnered up with Hatch to bring 1 month free of its mobile game streaming service to Galaxy S10 5G owners in the US. Secondly, the company has entered into a strategic partnership with for “ultra-low power, high-performance technologies.”

Samsung's partnership with AMD will allow the company to integrate custom AMD Radeon graphics IP into future SoCs for mobile applications. As part of the partnership, Samsung will license AMD graphics IP and will focus on advanced graphics technologies and solutions that are critical for enhancing innovation across mobile applications, including smartphones. 

“As we prepare for disruptive changes in technology and discover new opportunities, our partnership with AMD will allow us to bring groundbreaking graphics products and solutions to market for tomorrow's mobile applications,” said Inyup Kang, president of Samsung Electronics' S.LSI Business. “We look forward to working with AMD to accelerate innovations in mobile graphics technologies that will help take future mobile computing to the next level.”

This partnership will bring major benefits to both the companies involved. AMD will gain a new source of revenue, whereas Samsung will be able to start designing GPUs that are competitive with Qualcomm's mobile GPUs or perhaps even produce better ones.

AMD and Samsung have only just started their partnership, thus years of work is yet to be poured in before we can start seeing Radeon powered SoCs in Samsung smartphones.
