Destiny 2 is Bringing Back Dead Ghosts for Forsaken | Gaming News

Earlier this year, the video game developer Bungie teased the possibility of dead ghosts making a return at some point in the science fiction shooter sequel Destiny 2, as the second entry’s director Christopher Barrett mentioned intentions to bring back collectibles. Now, though, Bungie has decided to explicitly state that dead ghosts are going to be included in the action-RPG’s highly anticipated expansion known as Forsaken.
This much was confirmed by the Destiny 2: Forsaken project lead, Scott Taylor, who detailed how Bungie would be tying the game’s lore into the forthcoming DLC, with Taylor stating that it feels akin to “opening up a little book and reading the stories”. The Forsaken project lead went on to say, “There are short stories and long stories that you discover in the world and then open up in the game that you can go collect by killing bosses, finding items in the world like dead ghosts, and little drones that tell little stories that are either one part or maybe three.”
For those unaware, dead ghosts were originally collectibles from the first Destiny that allowed one to unlock Grimoire cards, which were D1‘s method of sharing its story with fans online. When players said that they wanted to experience the franchise’s lore in-game in the sequel, however, Bungie did away with the Grimoire cards and initially left dead ghosts out. Now that they’re making a return in Forsaken, though, it will be interesting to see just how effectively they help to fill in players about the lore.
All things considered, the inclusion of dead ghosts in Destiny 2: Forsaken without having them tied to Grimoire cards should please longtime fans of the franchise, as they will not only provide a nod to the previous game, but also have the potential to share unknown backstory in a much more organic way. Of course, we will simply have to wait and find out if bringing back dead ghosts pays off with fans when Forsaken goes live.
Destiny 2: Forsaken is set to launch on September 4, 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
