Fortnite getting Mario Kart style racing mode with battle pass
The rumored new racing mode for Fortnite sounds like it’s going to be a very substantial addition, with it’s own dedicated car cosmetics.
There’s been talk of Fortnite adding a new racing mode since back in May and while it still hasn’t been officially announced almost everything about Fortnite always leaks out ahead of time, as dataminers discover details long before Epic Games reveal them.
When it comes to the racing mode though it seems to be much more complicated than just a new skin or weapon, with the handling of the vehicles said to resemble Mario Kart. There’ll be turbo boosts and, just like Nintendo’s games, you’ll get a headstart if you boost just before the race begins.
You’ve also be able to do flips in the air like Rocket League, so it’ll be taking inspiration from a number of sources. In fact, there may be an official crossover, as the Octane vehicle from that game also seems to be coming to Fortnite.
The mode will feature a drifting mechanic and associated boost, which again sounds like Mario Kart, but there’ll also be a demolition derby element when you hit other cars.
An oversteer mechanic and course conditions like mud and ice will also be a part of it, as well as more fantastical elements like doing tricks in mid-air and activating ‘supersonic speed.’
The mode must be pretty substantial because it includes its own separate tutorial and battle pass, competitive and non-competitive modes, and a garage with unique car cosmetics.
Based on the codenames there could be anything up to seven different tracks, which suggests something very large scale, that is probably not going to disappear after just one season.
