Mortal Kombat 11’s Terminator Not Voiced by Arnold Schwarzenegger

Not too long ago, 11 developer NetherRealm Studios revealed its next characters and their respective release dates, with Terminator T-800 being the next character to release on October 8, and Spawn’s release date falling last. And not long after this reveal, Ed Boon sent out a tweet that seemingly suggested ’s  full involvement in this project.

However, this was quickly proven not to be the case. When Boon tweeted that “part of [him] still can’t believe [NetherRealm] got Arnold,” many Mortal Kombat 11 took this to mean Schwarzenegger was involved with both the portrayal and the voicing of the character. This idea isn’t outside a realm of possibility. Schwarzenegger has lent his voice to gaming before, as he voiced his iconic Terminator character in movie tie-in Terminator 2 and Terminator 3.

Nonetheless, Schwarzenegger’s voice isn’t involved with Mortal Kombat 11‘s Terminator, with Ed Boon likely referring to the likeness of the character, which was clearly taken from Schwarzenegger. Two sources, one of which being publisher Warner Bros. Interactive itself, have confirmed that he won’t be voicing Terminator this time around. Instead, it appears that NetherRelam Studios has hired a sound-a-like voice actor to capture it as much of the classic Terminator as possible.

Despite Ed Boon’s reputation of being a troll for all things Mortal Kombat 11, this doesn’t seem to be intentionally misleading. An easy enough explanation is that Boon is still surprised that NetherRealm Studios was able to use Schwarzenegger’s likeness for the Terminator, something that every fan of the franchise will enjoy. It also stands in direct contract to the disdain for Joker’s MK11 design, which has caught flak from all directions.

It remains to be seen how similar this sound-a-like voice actor is to Schwarzenegger’s iconic voice, but luckily fans don’t have to wait too long. Mortal Kombat 11 Kombat Pack 1 lists Terminator as the next DLC character, set to come out in October, so his fans won’t be waiting as long as fans of Spawn, who was revealed prior to Terminator, interestingly enough.
