Overwatch: Ashe’s Mardi Gras Challenge Event is Now Live

As previously leaked,  has launched a special Mardi Gras event. Live from now until March 9, Overwatch players can participate in Ashe’s Mardi Gras to unlock limited-time cosmetic rewards.

There are two ways that Overwatch players can unlock new content during Ashe’s Mardi Gras Challenge. The first is to simply play games of Overwatch, with three wins unlocking 2 Player Icons, six wins unlocking a new Spray, and nine games unlocking the Mardi Gras Ashe and Bob Epic Skin. The other way to unlock content during the Overwatch Ashe’s Mardi Gras Challenge event is to watch participating Twitch streamers. One new Spray will unlock at two hours of watch time, whereas players can get an additional two Sprays after hitting four hours. Watching six hours of participating Twitch streamers during the Overwatch Ashe’s Mardi Gras Challenge unlocks another two Sprays for a total of five new Sprays.

As many fans assumed, the Overwatch Ashe’s Mardi Gras Challenge event is more in line with the LEGO Bastion event. That is, it’s a relatively short event with the chance to unlock one new Epic skin, as opposed to the longer events that add a bunch of new content to the game. Some fans may be disappointed by this, but luckily, they won’t have to wait too much longer for the next big Overwatch seasonal event.

Every April, Overwatch hosts what is called the Archives event. This event adds new story content to the hero-shooter, giving players a taste of some PvE action that will be the big focus of the upcoming Overwatch 2 in the process. Besides a new co-op mission, the Overwatch Archives event will likely also feature a slew of new skins and cosmetic rewards for fans of the game to add to their collection.

When Overwatch 2 releases, it will be interesting to see if it sticks to the seasonal event pattern established by the base game or if it will introduce new events to the mix. Since Overwatch and Overwatch 2 will share PvP content for some time after launch, it seems likely that the games will stick with the established seasonal events like Halloween Terror and Winter Wonderland instead of adding new ones, but that remains to be seen.

More information on Overwatch 2 should come later this year. In the meantime, players of the original Overwatch can participate in Ashe’s Mardi Gras Challenge event to unlock some new content in the game.

Overwatch is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
