Unexpected news about Mario Kart 8 getting more DLC but I’d very much welcome it. Knowing Nintendo it’ll be like one extra car or something but if they did something that was as a good as the original Wii U DLC I know I would buy it in a heartbeat. They earned a lot of goodwill with that one and I think most people would trust them again to do the same thing.

I’d prefer to see all new tracks, that take advantage of the Switch’s extra horsepower, but anything new-ish will be appreciated. As for characters I’m totally okay with this become Super Nintendo Kart, like a racing version of Smash Bros. I could actually see them adding other non-Mario characters purely to pave the way for a full-on Nintendo Kart next gen.

I know there’s a lot of cynicism surrounding the Wii U ports on Switch but I think they’ve helped to fill in a gap in the schedules very well and games like Mario Kart 8 are much to good to be played only by those that own a Wii U. Plus they’ve basically run out now, so apart from maybe one or two others there can’t be anymore anyway.

Predictable results

That parents survey is a real eye-opener although I’m in the slightest bit surprised by it. Like you said, you see parents buying 18-rated games for kids all the times in shops. I’ve seen multiple times them getting very angry when staff try to stop and warn them, so they know exactly what they’re doing. But £50 for a babysitter than can last months is pretty good value for money and I think that’s how many of them see it.

Out of sight, out of mind is the attitude: Little Johnny is quiet upstairs with his video game and as long as you purposefully don’t ask what he’s playing you can get upset about it. Sure he’ll turn into a violent thug before his time, but at least you got to watch EastEnders in peace, right?

If I sound a bit angry it’s because I see these sort of attitude from people at work all the time, even if it’s not in so many words. If a game is meant for adults it should only be played by adults, and don’t start fooling yourself that ‘My kid is mature for his age’. That’s just an excuse you’re making to try and have a quiet life.

Quick fix

I have been reading a few things about Call Of Duty and it’s the first one since Ghosts that I have been interested in from the start, as opposed to waiting six months.

However… I have a concern and that is about the Battle Royale mode. It’s not the size of the map or the amount of players, it actually relates to one of my biggest aggravations with the game. And that is quick-scoping. For those that are unaware of what this is, it’s pretty much an exploit to the sniper rifle mechanics that basically allow for someone with a sniper rifle to one-hit kill you from pretty much anywhere from shotgun range and all the way out to sniper rifle range. Oh, and it’s also very quick to do and insanely annoying.

In a Battle Royale mode surely when it gets to the end it is just going to be quick-scopers just trying to one-hit kill each other, and if you can’t do it you are likely to be at a very significant (and frustrating) disadvantage. I really hope that if quick-scoping is in the game (which it probably is) that at least something is done about it being kept out of the Battle Royale mode. I’m waiting to see how the Battle Royale mode pans out but it could be an issue for me if this is the case.

Why try harder

Never mind EA I still can’t believe that Activision is the biggest video games company in the world. Nothing against them particularly but they only make two games and that has always seemed weird. Call Of Duty is probably untouchable for a few more years but Destiny already seems to be on the way out, so why aren’t they out there trying new things?

If they’re so rich surely they can afford to take lots of risk, throw a bunch of new games out there and see what sticks. I guess they’re publishing the new From ninja game but that seems small potatoes compared to what they could be doing.

You might not like EA but at least they’re not scared of spending money, although maybe just sitting back and hoarding it is why Activision is on top.

Not so happy

I don’t really get what’s going on with We Happy Few. I played the beta, or whatever it was, years ago but it turned out to be a really boring survival game with a fakey looking randomly-generated world. Has it really changed that much? And what was it about that game, that I don’t remember anyone talking about particularly positively that made Microsoft want to buy the developer?

Not having a go but it just seemed a really random thing to bring back. I like the idea, which is why I tried it but I thought it was going to be like BioShock or something. I understand they’ve pushed it more in to that direction now but it still seems to be basically the same idea.

As has been said before the games that end up getting second chances can be really odd choices…

Free help

Since GTA Online launched we have had some updates and have even enjoyed heists and soon-to-come nightclubs. We have even seen new vehicles and even a new auto shop called Benny’s. However, there is one upgrade that I think GTA Online could use that would be a really handy feature.

When doing heists you can run into players who are a lower rank and won’t have much weapons or body armour on them and this can cause teams to fail heists. A feature that could be added is the ability for the player to purchase a stash of weapons, body armour, and snacks in their apartment or office, bunker, etc. that other lower ranked players can collect so they can use these better weapons and armour that they couldn’t afford or are not a high enough rank to buy them. This would vastly improve the success of doing heists for even lower-ranked players and would also help them with other missions.

Of course it would cost money, however for a highly ranked player getting the money for this wouldn’t be a problem and it would also save having to have players run all the way out to Ammunation or stores.

Just a suggestion and I welcome everyone’s response.

Mighty strange additions

Will you guys be reviewing Sonic Mania Plus?

The moment I heard about Mighty the Armadillo and Ray the Squirrel being added to the game, my first thoughts were are they purposefully trying to lower their Metacritic score?

On the topic of Sonic and Sega, the PlayStation 4 release of the Sega Mega Drive Collection is criminally missing Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles. It would have been a must buy for me then.

Already got it

The Switch ports are getting a little tedious now when you already own a Wii U. I know a lot of people don’t, but I could pick up Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker and play it again exclusively on the Wii U tablet (it is a great game), thus completely off-screen. Not much help if you take your Switch on the go, but still, better than paying for a brand-new copy on the Switch.

I have also been looking at playing some games I have completed before on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One, namely Splinter Cell: Blacklist and Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. They can be picked up on the cheap and being able to play them solely on the GamePad does sound like fun.

I say all this knowing full well that when I load up the Switch each night I struggle to play anything other than Rocket League! It is especially nice to hold onto a lead after the heartache that was Wednesday.
