Facebook gaming new monetization features for creators

said Monday that creators on its platform have received over 5 billion Stars over the past year, netting them roughly $50 million.

There are currently over 2,000 creators making more than $1,000 per month from Stars, Fan Subscriptions and ads.

Facebook Gaming revealed the following updates with the aim of keeping the momentum going.

A Stars holiday celebration that will run from Dec. 15 through Jan. 1 will enable fans to purchase Stars at a reduced price, receive a unique badge for sending Stars and send a limited-time Hand Raise virtual gift to their favorite creators.

Facebook Gaming is also testing two new features in chat with the goal of rolling them out to all users soon.

Comments that are attached to Stars will stand out in chat in the new experience, enabling fans and creators to more easily see them. Larger Stars will receive a more highlighted comment, with bright pink and purple gradient.

And a Stars ticker will pin comments attached to large Stars to the bottom of the chat window for a certain period of time, enabling fans who are supporting creators with Stars to have their comments stay on-screen and be seen by more of the community.

Finally, Facebook Gaming said it is rolling out several new animations and graphics for virtual gifts, which will be available to all users.

Facebook Gaming wrote in a blog post Monday, “Understanding creators’ needs and enabling them to build a successful business in streaming is at the core of what we do. We want Facebook Gaming to be the best platform for gaming creators, and that includes being the place where they can earn the most from their passion. As this year comes to an end, we want to celebrate the fans and creators who make our platform successful. Our creators continue to grow their communities and have reached new heights.”
