Apple Journaling App for Mental & Physical Health Tracking
Apple reportedly plans to release a new iPhone app allowing users to track and record their daily activities as part of the company’s push into the mental and physical health technology market, The Wall Street Journal tells us in a report.
According to documents obtained by WSJ, the new software will compete in a category of journaling apps, such as Day One, which allows users to track and record their activities and thoughts.
Apple’s Growing Interest in Mental Health Apps
Apple‘s upcoming wellness journaling app could compete with the popular daily mental health journaling app Day One.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the app could use data from a user’s phone to suggest journal prompts and understand their daily routine based on location data.
The new app demonstrates Apple’s growing interest in mental health, with one document describing the app stating that journaling has been shown to improve both mental and physical well-being.
The company’s push into healthcare has primarily been focused on the Apple Watch, which already includes features like heart rate monitoring, ECG readings, and fall detection.
While the new app will compete with existing journaling apps, it follows a pattern in which Apple provides a platform for developers and frequently competes with them, including by building apps with similar features to existing software and sometimes offering them free to users.
It is unclear whether Apple intends to charge for the new app, which has yet to be officially announced. However, the new software will likely be integrated into Apple’s larger ecosystem of health and fitness tracking tools, including the Health app and the Apple Watch.
Apple Expanding Healthcare Offerings
In recent years, Apple has been increasingly focused on expanding its healthcare offerings, with CEO Tim Cook referring to healthcare as a “big area for Apple’s future.”
The company has made significant investments in health-related research and development, including partnerships with major healthcare providers and establishing the Apple Heart Study in collaboration with Stanford Medicine.
The company has also made new efforts to make its technology more accessible to people with disabilities, including features such as VoiceOver, which reads aloud on-screen text, and Closed Captions, which provide text descriptions of audio content.
