Instagram Launches Dedicated App for Instant Status Updates & Messages

In an attempt to help users stay connected with their friends, Facebook has added another app dubbed “Threads” to its family. The application was announced in August this year and is currently being rolled out to Android and iOS internationally.

Threads can be called an extension of Instagram’s close friend feature. It will allow users to share statuses, stories, and videos with their pre-defined close friends’ list.

In its recent blog post, Facebook writes:

Over the last few years, we’ve introduced several new ways to share visually on Instagram and connect with people you care about.

But for your smaller circle of friends, we saw the need to stay more connected throughout the day, so you can communicate what you’re doing and how you’re feeling through photos and videos. That’s why we built Threads, a new way to message with close friends in a dedicated, private space.

This standalone application, according to Facebook, is designed with privacy, speed and close connections in mind.

The main features of this application are:

Instant photo and video sharing

Since the application focuses on sharing updates with your close friends, like Snapchat, it directly opens to the camera and allows you to add shortcuts. Just by tapping the screen twice, you will be able to share your photos and videos with close friends.

Statuses

You can either enter your statuses manually or can activate the auto status update feature. This feature, without sharing your exact location will update your friends regarding your activities throughout the day.

For example, if you are at a library, the status update will posts ‘📚 Studying’, if you are at a café it will post ‘☕ At a café’, if you are traveling the app will automatically update your friends by posting ‘🚗 On the move’, etc.

Messages to close friends

The application will come with a dedicated folder and a notification system for close friends. You will be able to talk to other friends as well. However, everyone on your close friends’ list will be a tap away thanks to this dedicated inbox feature.

Users will be able to download the application from the Play Store or the App store tomorrow onwards.
