Asia’s relentless appetite for IT experts
In line with growth displayed during the previous months, hiring activity in the IT and Telecom industry blossomed in Southeast Asia, with all three countries reporting double-digit growth during November. This is according to the data provided by the Monster Employment Index, released by Monster.com.
A monthly gauge of online hiring activity across Singapore, Malaysia and the Philippines, the Monster Employment Index (MEI) is tracked and compiled by Monster.com. It comprises data of overall hiring activity in each country, as well as specific data in the IT and telecommunications sector.
Taking the lead with a 28% year-on-year growth in demand for tech talent during November was Malaysia, which experienced a 3% rise from its 25% annual growth reported during October. Singapore and the Philippines followed closely, clocking in 22% and 19% annual growth in November. Both countries experienced a positive jump from annual growth reported during the previous months.
IT, Telecom/ISP and BPO/ITES Industry
While roles in the tech space were available across all three countries, some countries displayed more growth as compared to others. The Philippines saw an abundance of IT jobs during November, experiencing a 20% annual growth.
In contrast, Singapore and Malaysia, though displaying positive annual growth for November, only managed to report 8% and 3% annual growth, respectively. However, this is an improvement for both countries, as they had recorded negative annual growth during the previous month.
Software, Hardware & Telecom Roles

Brands, and especially major ecommerce players, are looking for candidates who are comfortable with massive quantities of data and who can steer the business in a direction that can ensure its continued existence,” said Abhijeet Mukherjee, CEO of Monster.com – APAC and Middle East.
