Facebook will build its first data centre in Asia in Singapore | Digital Asia
Digital Asia News Update
Facebook officially announced today that it will make over US$ 1 billion investment to build its first Asian data center in Singapore, as reported by Channel News Asia. The data centre will have 11 floors on the 170,000 sqm premise and will create hundreds of vacancies.
Fortis Construction has been selected by Facebook as the general contractor for their green buildings portfolio in the past. The facility will be located in Jurong East as a part of the company’s growing presence in Singapore and across the region.
The exclusive news by the company also noted that the new building will stay on course with energy efficiency. One of the energy efficient facilities in the building will include a liquid cooling technology to minimise consumption of power and water, and is believed to be able to reduce the use of groundwater by 20 per cent in Singapore’s climate.
Furthermore, the material being used for the building will allow air flow because of its lightweight nature and perforation.
