MDEC’s Alan Fung returns to PIKOM as CEO | Digital Asia

The National ICT Association of Malaysia () has appointed as of its secretariat. He was previously senior manager, enterprise development division at the Malaysia Economy Corporation (MDEC) and was the founding team member of the MDEC Global Acceleration and Innovation (GAIN) programme. The programme focused on globalising selected high-growth Malaysian tech companies.

Fung was PIKOM’s executive director from 1994 to 2000 before starting an email marketing company, permission.com. Thereafter, he became CEO of txt123, a Maybank Associate company. He has also worked in MNCs such as computer company Digital Equipment Corp.

According to Fung, his top priorities include giving PIKOM a fresh approach to make the association more relevant to the changing ICT landscape. This will be done by inviting a newer generation of member companies to be part of the association, as well as kicking off related initiatives in the areas of blockchain, AI, Internet of Things, robotics and Industrial Revolution 4.0.

“I am humbled to be given the opportunity to re-join PIKOM at this exciting and challenging juncture of our industry to help PIKOM in its transformation journey,” Fung said.

Meanwhile, PIKOM chairman Ganesh Kumar Bangah said the council is looking forward to see PIKOM play a more active role for the industry, taking shape under the guidance and support of Fung, who comes armed with a wealth of industry experience and insights over the past 30 years.

“Moving forward, we want to create a much stronger and a more dependable association with tailor-suit offerings for our existing, new and future members who are the driving force of the ICT industry which is one of the fastest growing industries in Malaysia,” he said.
