Oppo finds its new flagship in the Find X | Tech News

  • Unique sliding camera system expertly hides front and rear cameras
  • Find X is available in a special Automobili Lamborghini edition

OPPO has found a new voice in its flagship smartphone the Find X which it unveiled at an event in Paris .

Determined to beat the competition in the bezel-less screen game, Oppo stretched the Find X’s massive 6.4-inch OLED display to the very edges of the phone, giving it the appearance of an all screen display at a 93.8% screen-to-body ratio.

The Find X does take some design cues from other smartphones. With curved sides and rounded corners, it looks like a distant relative of the Samsung Galaxy S9.

In Oppo’s pursuit to maximise the screen on the Find X, without resorting to including a notch, it uses a unique sliding camera system, called Stealth 3D camera, that hides the cameras on both the front and rear and raises them at will.

The motorised camera pop-up reveals a 25-Megapixel selfie camera, which is expected given Oppo’s heavy leaning towards selfie lovers. The company has not forgotten more serious photographers by including a 16-Megapixel and 20-Megapixel dual rear cameras.

Interestingly, Oppo has decided to do away with the all too common fingerprint reader and rely solely on a 3D facial scanner, courtesy of the front camera that pops up and hides away, as its biometric security measure.

Oppo has spared no expense to ensure that the Find X comes with the latest specs that you can come to expect from a 2018 Android phone, from a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage.

All this power is kept running by a 3,750mAh battery that is VOOC fast charge enabled.

Software-wise, the Find X runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with Color OS 5.1 on top of it. Sticking to the trend, Oppo claims it has overlaid some Artificial Intelligence (AI) features on top to give it better performance when it comes to the camera, gaming and overall performance.

Of course, this being 2018 no self-respecting smartphone brand can resist the temptation to include their own cute emoji feature. Oppo has done so with its 3D Omoji feature that lets users generate their own cartoon avatars and record videos or GIFs.

As for the price, the Oppo Find X 8GB and 256GB storage variant will retail at 999 euros (US$1,157).

There is also a special Automobili Lamborghini edition that will feature a body with carbon fibre texture that covers the pure black aesthetics of the phone. Oppo has also included a whopping 512GB of storage on the device and SuperVOOC flash charging to embody the spirit of speed from the supercar in the phone’s quick-charging capabilities.

The special edition will retail at 1,699 euros (US$1,968).

There is no word at the moment if Oppo will be bringing the Find X to Southeast Asia.
