Selangor partners with Amazon with TM for smart digital infrastructure

() has partnered with Telekom Malaysia Bhd and global cloud computing tech provider Amazon Web Services (AWS) for its new Smart Digital Infrastructure (SDI) initiative.

Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said through SDI, the state will be able to provide 3Gbps high speed connectivity for the public sector, known as Smart Selangor Gigabit Network that was co-developed with Telekom Malaysia.

On top of that, the national utility company will also facilitate a localised Smart Selangor Hybrid Cloud Data Centre (SSDC) with tier-4 ready data storage facility.

The SSDC houses Malaysia’s first AWS Outposts – a fully managed services platform by Amazon that came into the country June last year.

Amirudin said with such , SDI will become a greater enabler to connect the government services with the public, hence improving the state delivery systems.

This will also help to accelerate the state digitalisation agenda before 2025.

“The application of these SDI infrastructures into government operations can ensure faster delivery of citizen services, operations and also realise more possibilities of technology co-development between SSDU and technology giants both local and international,” he said when launching the SDI infrastructure in Shah Alam, Selangor today.

Amirudin added that the mission is also in line with the federal government MyDigital plan, which has set the target at 80% usage of cloud storage across the government sector by next year.

Besides Telekom Malaysia and AWS, a Fortune 500 firm based in California, NetApp Inc will provide a peering technology on the AWS Outposts in Malaysia.

The app will enable state entities to relocate their servers into SSDC and have full access to the cloud computing services run locally on AWS Outposts.

Amirudin said due to the Covid-19 disruption, the state has committed to bring forward the digitalisation budget allocated for SSDU.

The state had earlier committed a full RM369 million budget for the Smart Selangor before 2025.
