Govt to set up a biotechnology lab at Konza Technopolis – Bio Tech| Bio Tech

The government plans to establish a biotechnology laboratory at Konza Technopolis in support of the food security agenda.

Agricultural Research Principal Secretary Hamadi Boga says the laboratory will help the country in improving food quality, quantity, and processing.

This will be in addition to three other science laboratories being established by the ministry of education.

Kenya is positioning herself to be a research and innovation hub through the establishment of several research laboratories at the Konza Technopolis.

Construction of the first phase of the mega project will involve setting up of the Kenya Advanced Institute of Science and Technology which is likely to start in September this year and be completed by December 2021.

Establishment of research laboratories at Konza Technopolis will include a biotechnology laboratory in efforts to advance the food security agenda by improving food quality, quantity, and processing.

The Nation Physical Science Research Laboratories are to be a one-stop world-class high research facility and a center of excellence to cater for research needs at the national, regional and international levels.

An allocation of land for a Life Science Band to cater for research laboratories in Phase 1 master plan is in place.

KoTDA Chief Executive says “Land has already been allocated for the establishment of the laboratories whose objective is to provide infrastructure and equipment for research that will deliver cutting-edge innovation research solutions that will propel Kenya to an industrialized nation by the year 2030’’.

40 billion shillings is being spent on key infrastructure such as fiber optic cable, electricity, roads, water and sewerage at the techno city.
