Best limited edition consoles of 2018 | Tech News
While it’s pretty easy to pick up a PS4, Xbox One or Nintendo 3DS, sometimes it’s worth splashing out a little extra on a limited edition console. Limited edition consoles usually boast unique designs and features, from the Norse-inspired detailing on the PS4 God of War Edition to the Minecraft Xbox One S that features Minecraft system sounds, and can come with a game or two too.
Besides looking amazing, limited edition consoles are just that – limited edition. And once all the stock has been sold, limited edition consoles can be sold at a much higher price. We’ve seen limited edition consoles like the 20th anniversary PS4 sell for well over the original price because stock was so scarce.
Here, we list some of the best limited edition consoles on the market in 2018, and some to look forward to in future too.
PS4 Days of Play Edition
Sony celebrated the launch of the Days of Play 2018 sale with the reveal of a brand new limited edition 500GB PS4. It’s a slick royal blue and gold combo with unique PS4 branding on the console, and the controllers are also blue instead of the standard black.
Notice we said controllers, plural. That’s because the console comes with not one but two DualShock 4 controllers, saving you around £50.
PS4 Pro God of War Edition
Whether you’re a long-time fan of the series or yet to play 2018’s God of War, the limited edition God of War 1TB PS4 Pro is a stunning option. It sports a grey body inspired by Kratos’s iconic axe, and features gorgeous black and gold Norse Rune-inspired detailing across the console. It’s not just the console that got the special treatment though; the console comes with a matching limited edition DualShock 4 controller.
Along with the console, you’ll also get a copy of God of War Day One Edition to play in glorious 4K HDR.
Xbox One S Minecraft Edition
For fans of Minecraft, this limited edition bundle is perfect. The 1TB Xbox One S console features a custom design based on Minecraft’s grass block, and a custom creeper-inspired Xbox One S controller. It offers more than just a custom look though; the console also boasts custom Minecraft system sounds, and a vertical stand to show it off to all your friends.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Minecraft bundle without a copy of the game. You’ll get a copy of the game to download, along with the Redstone Pack (unique skin packs) and the Explorers Pack (five pieces of DLC).
2DS XL Yellow Pikachu Edition
It’s hard to find somebody that doesn’t like Pokemon in some form, whether it’s exploring with Pokemon GO or playing Pokemon Sun & Moon on the DS. If you want to take that obsession one step further, why not pick up the 2DS XL Yellow Pikachu Edition? It features a bright, eye-catching yellow design with a textured nose that is lifted slightly from the console, giving Pikachu’s face some depth.
But, unlike other game-inspired consoles, the Pikachu Edition 2DS XL doesn’t come with any free Pokemon games, digital or physical.
Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition
The Xbox One X Project Scorpio Edition was extremely hard to come by at launch (pre-orders sold out almost instantly) but, thankfully, Microsoft has replenished stock – though it’s not cheap. But for hardcore Xbox fans, it might be worth splashing the cash.
What makes this 1TB Xbox One X so special? Aside from providing true [email protected] gameplay, it features a custom design and ‘Project Scorpio’ detailing on both the console and controller, referring to the console’s pre-release codename. We’ve got a feeling these won’t be available for much longer, and that the price will skyrocket once stock runs out.
PS4 Pro Kingdom Hearts III Edition
This one isn’t out just yet, but it should be on the radar if you’re a fan of Kingdom Hearts. To coincide with the launch of Kingdom Hearts 3 in January 2019, fans will be able to purchase a limited edition Kingdom Hearts III PS4 Pro. It’ll feature light Kingdom Hearts-themed detailing on both the controller and console.
We’ll be sure to update this closer to release, once it’s available for pre-order.
