Call Of Duty: Warzone Caldera shuts down tonight and everything will be lost

After a surprisingly short existence, the first Call Of Duty: Warzone will close today and all progression and inventories will be lost.

The second attempt at a Call Of Duty battle royale, after 2018’s Blackout, will close today, September 21. Not because Warzone was a failure but simply because it’s been replaced by Warzone 2.0 and Activision wants to make sure everyone is playing the new game and not the old one.

As a result, Warzone 2.0 will be called Warzone from now on and what is currently known as Warzone Caldera will cease to exist, including all player progression and inventories for it.

That means you’ll no longer be able to use any skins or cosmetics you may have bought for the game and, surprisingly, there’s no big send-off planned – it’ll just switch off at some point today and that will be it.

The original Warzone first launched in March 2020, alongside the first Modern Warfare reboot, and the Caldera map was introduced in December 2021, taking over from the 1984 version of Verdansk.

All that will be gone by the end of the day, although Activision has given plenty of warning that the shutdown will happen. Purchased items can still be used in the multiplayer of the paid-for Call Of Duty games but not, for some reason, in Warzone 2.0.

It’s yet another example of poor video game preservation and unless those maps end up getting reused in Warzone 2.0 (which, to be fair, is probably quite likely) they’re gone forever, along with all the money people spent on cosmetics and items.

What time will Call Of Duty: Warzone Caldera shut down?

Activision has not announced a time for Caldera’s closure, so technically it could happen anytime on Thursday, September 21. Although it’s still live at time of writing.

The most likely closure time is around 6pm BST, as that’s when the game and servers are usually updated. The game may still be running after that, but at that point it really could be switched off at any moment, so make sure you give it one last go before that.
