Capcom Was Worried About Resident Evil 2 Remake’s Reveal | Gaming

About a month ago, the Game Critics Awards went on to dub ’s forthcoming remake of the 1998 survival horror classic Resident Evil 2 the Best of Show for E3 2018 after the company officially unveiled the title to the public. While a plethora of attendees and those at home were eagerly anticipating this reveal, it seems as if Capcom was initially nervous about the fans’ reaction to what direction it was taking the project.

According to Capcom’s EMEA Marketing Director, Antoine Molant, the company knew that there were huge expectations surrounding the Resident Evil 2 remake, but despite the fact that the publisher and developer “knew it looked great and would be a good game”, it was “ that the fan base would be divided” when it comes to the changes that had been made. After the reveal, Molant explained that even though “there might have been some initial dissenting voices,” Capcom was surely pleased that “the reaction was overwhelmingly positive” instead.

For those unaware, not only is Capcom altering the controls, camera perspective, and overall design scheme of the original Resident Evil 2, the publisher and developer have also decided to make sure that the story is not exactly the same this time around either. That said, though, there ought to be plenty of familiar elements that long-time fans and even newcomers will be able to appreciate once the survival-horror remake hits store shelves.

Taking all of this into account, the hype around Capcom’s Resident Evil 2 remake is definitely huge, and the company is even anticipating positive reactions to similar projects like this in the future. As it so happens, the publisher and developer recently announced its decision to make more remakes after RE2 goes live next year. With this being the case, it definitely seems as if Capcom is fully confident in its choice to bring the 1998 survival horror title into the modern era.

Resident Evil 2 is slated to release on January 25, 2019 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
