Dragon Dogma 2 release date leaked ahead of reveal showcase
It’s going to be an exciting couple of months for Capcom fans, this year and next. Rumours yesterday pointed towards a Monster Hunter: World 2 announcement at The Game Awards next week, while tonight Capcom has a showcase planned for Dragon’s Dogma 2.
The event is due to take place at 9pm GMT but will only last 15 minutes, with a new trailer and a release date expected to be unveiled. The date has already been leaked once, by the PEGI age rating board, but now Steam has confirmed it as well… as March 22.
These sort of mistakes with retail listings are not uncommon, and since it was always expected next spring there doesn’t seem to be any doubt that that’s the official release date for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation, and PC.
We got to play an hour’s worth of Dragon’s Dogma 2 back in September and it was pretty clear at that point that the game was nearing completion, so March isn’t very surprising.
What is surprising is how long a sequel has taken to arrive, as it’s been 11 years since the first game and apart from enhanced edition Dark Arisen there’s been no new games since then. Although there was a Netflix tie-in series a few years ago.
The showcase will feature director Hideaki Itsuno and producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi, with the former confirming that the release date will be ‘formally’ announced tonight.
Update: As expected, the showcase confirmed the release date as March 22, with a new look at various enemies and player classes. The game is now open for pre-order on all formats, with a Digital Deluxe Edition announced as well.
Although the leaks are far less concrete for the new Monster Hunter, that is also believed to be out next year, with Capcom confirming that they have a new title planned that they expected to sell millions of copies of.
They didn’t confirm it was Monster Hunter but given no new Resident Evil game is expected next year there seems to be little else it could be.
