Fortnite Celebrating 1st Birthday With Special In-Game Event | Gaming

Fortnite is two weeks into Season 5, with week two challenges having just rolled out, both for those that have the Battle Pass and those who do not. It now looks like another event is making its way to the game next week with its own unique challenges and quests.

Epic Games announced that Fortnite would be getting a special in-game event to celebrate the game’s first birthday. The celebration will start on July 24th and will have tasks for players to complete, both in Battle Royale and Save the World. It will run until August 7th, so fans will have a couple weeks to complete these challenges to unlock special cosmetic items.

For those who play the Battle Royale mode, there will be three challenges to complete to unlock some birthday themed cosmetics. First, it looks like players will need to complete 14 total matches, which will earn them 5000 XP. Next, 1000 total damage has to be dealt to enemy players and will unlock the birthday emoticon. Finally, players will need to dance in front of 10 different birthday cakes spread around the map to earn the birthday cake spray. Completing all of these challenges will unlock the Birthday Cake backpack cosmetic items.

Save the World players won’t be left out of the festivities, though. There will be a special questline in the campaign to complete and earn rewards for that mode, as well. The reward for making it through all the quests will grant access to a special hero, Birthday Brigade Ramirez. Tickets earned through the campaign can be used to purchase special birthday llamas, too. These llamas will be filled with both heroes and weapons from other in-game events that took place earlier this year, except for ones that were quest specific rewards.

Of course, Fortnite‘s birthday isn’t the only thing that Epic Games has to celebrate in regards to the title. It was recently revealed that the game has made more than $1 billion from microtransactions alone. That’s quite the number to hit, considering the game is barely a year old.

Fortnite is currently in early access for iOS, PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and is set to release in Summer of 2018 for Android.
