Gears 6 game reveal in June at Xbox Showcase claims JD voice actor

The next mainline Gears Of War game will be unveiled to the world this summer, according to hints from one of Gears 5’s actors.

Considering how long it is since there’s been any official news on a new Gears Of War, it’s not much of a stretch to guess that Gears 6 may be one of the big reveals at the Xbox Summer Showcase this June.

There have already been multiple rumours of Gears 6 being announced this year and now the voice for JD Fenix has suggested the same.

That’s surprising for two reasons though, the first being why would a voice actor know when the game reveal is? And the second is that… JD is supposed to be dead.

The comment was made by actor Liam McIntyre on Twitter when he was asked: ‘Wait… so what’s happening to JD? Is his death canon?’

To that he replied: ‘I have no idea. I think @GearsofWar tells us all in June.’

The first point to make here is that actors are notoriously poor sources of information and regularly get wrong details that they really should know better.

At the same time, there seems no obvious reason that Microsoft would’ve told McIntyre about the reveal, especially this far out, unless he’s making some kind of appearance on stage – although that’s uncommon.

However, a new Gears Of War game is long overdue, especially as it’s assumed developer The Coalition has been working on it since around the time of the last game’s release in 2019.

The problem is likely to have been the subdued reception to Gears 5, which only reinforced the idea that the franchise is in decline, in terms of innovation and general interest.

It ended on cliffhanger though, which makes a reboot difficult, and yet it’s not clear how many people are really interested in continuing the current storyline.

There’s also an additional complication in that at the end of Gears 5 you’re given the choice as to whether to save JD or a different character, called Del Walker.

The choice is up to you but according to series canon it’s JD that dies. That’s what the fan is referring to in the tweet, but since that canon status is not stated in the game it should be fairly easy for a subsequent game to retcon.
