H1Z1: Battle Royale Gets PS4 Release Date and Battle Pass | Gaming

Struggling to compete against the likes of PUBG and FortniteH1Z1: Battle Royale lost 91% of its player base just as it was about to enter the eSports realm. Since entering the console space with its PlayStation 4 open beta, the game has managed to find a bit more success, and will officially launch as a free-to-play game on August 7.

The release of H1Z1: Battle Royale on PS4 is marked by more than just the game’s exit from open beta. Developer Daybreak Game Company is also adding two new weapons to the mix, including the SOCOM semi-automatic sniper rifle and the RPG. The RPG, as one might imagine, will be especially useful for taking out enemy vehicles.

Speaking of vehicles, H1Z1 is also getting a new vehicle called the ARV. The ARV is built to carry up to five players, with one player able to fire at enemies through the hatch on the roof.

Besides new weapons and vehicles, H1Z1: Battle Royale is also getting Battle Pass Season 1. Seemingly inspired by Fortnite‘s battle pass system, players will have three tiers of unlocks for H1Z1‘s Battle Pass. The first tier is free for everyone, the second tier is for those who buy the premium Battle Pass for $5.49, and the final tier is for those who are subscribed to PlayStation Plus.

Finally, Daybreak Game Company is also releasing two new premium bundles for those who want some extra content when they jump into the game. The first is called the Viper Starter Bundle, which will retail for $4.99, and the second is the more expensive Hardline Deluxe bundle that costs $34.99. Both bundles should be available at launch next month.

H1Z1: Battle Royale may have lost much of its audience on PC, but the game has proven popular on console so far, with over 10 million players trying the open beta. If Daybreak is able to retain at least a portion of that audience when the game officially launches on August 7, it should be in good shape.

H1Z1: Battle Royale is available now on PC. It will launch on August 7 for PS4, and is also in development for Xbox One.
