Loot Crate launches Loot Play, an indie games subscription service | Gaming News
The perfect source for gaming uptodate news
Loot Play, available now for $10 a month, begins with Crossing Souls, which debuted in winter and in July launched for Nintendo Switch. Key reseller Chrono.gg is partnering with Loot Crate to deliver the bundle. Each month, subscribers will get five games. One, like Crossing Souls this month, will be named ahead of time and featured on Loot Crate’s Tuesday livestreams on Twitch and Mixer.
The other four will be mystery prizes, keeping with the grab-bag appeal of Loot Crate’s physical goods. A news release from Loot Crate promised all the games would be a “high-quality, highly curated selection.”
Crossing Souls, developed by Fourattic and published by Devolver Digital, is a 1980s nostalgia-themed action-adventure. Players take control of five youthful explorers, in the mode of The Goonies and other adolescent exploitation films of the decade, as they learn the secrets inside a mysterious artifact and keep it out of evildoers’ hands.
Loot Play joins a subscription marketplace that includes Humble Bundle, PlayStation Plus, Xbox Live Gold and EA/Origin Access. With the launch of Nintendo Switch Online in September, that console began offering players access to a library of classic games. PlayStation Now, a streaming service for the PlayStation 4, recently allowed subscribers to download full titles, similar to to the Xbox Game Pass for Xbox One and Windows 10 PCs.
