Yesterday, Rockstar Games announced that a new gameplay trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 would drop this morning, and the world-renowned studio didn’t disappoint. As promised, the new Red Dead Redemption 2 gameplay trailer is now available, and it is the most action-packed look at the upcoming open world western game to date.
Whereas the first gameplay trailer focused largely on the open world, the new Red Dead Redemption 2 gameplay trailer is all about action. In the trailer, players can see main protagonist Arthur Morgan involved in a variety of nefarious activities, including bank heists, train robberies, muggings, burglaries, loansharking, and more.
While participating in these acts, Athur also finds himself in battles with rival gang members, outlaws, and bounty hunters, which gives us our first good look at combat in Red Dead Redemption 2. The combat seamlessly blends together with the story when appropriate, and players once again have access to the Dead Eye system, which can be used to slow down time, paint multiple targets, and highlight the weak points of enemies.
Another focus of the new Red Dead Redemption 2 gameplay trailer is player choice. In Red Dead Redemption 2, players can choose what they wear, what they eat, which guns to carry, whether they shave, bathe, or “don’t.” When they’re not out robbing stagecoaches at gunpoint or getting into fistfights, they can spend their time doing other things, like fishing, sheep herding, playing card games, getting drunk at saloons, dancing with women, chopping wood, watching plays, dueling, bounty hunting, and more.
Of course, players can also just go out and explore the open world, which Rockstar is calling its “most ambitious” open world to date. While out and about, players can find secret areas or special people to meet, with an example shown in the trailer being what appears to be two prison escapees brawling in the dirt. How players interact with these characters will also be important, as Rockstar says behavior in the game has consequences and people will remember Arthur’s actions.
At the end of the trailer, Rockstar reveals how Red Dead Redemption 2 players can experience its most ambitious open world to date, and there are actually a few options available. Players can use the standard third-person camera, or they can play the entire game in first-person. Cinematic camera options are also available, which should do a better job of highlighting the beauty of the open world. Whether players stick with one camera option or switch between all the ones that are available is up to them, which is just yet another way Red Dead Redemption 2 is all about player choice.
Red Dead Redemption 2 launches October 26 for PS4 and Xbox One.
