Nintendo Switch to get ‘final big game’ as leaker teases secret Direct

An insider claims another Nintendo Direct is planned before the big Switch 2 blowout, which will apparently include a major unannounced game.

The bulk of anticipation recently has been centred around Nintendo’s next console, but there’s still several major games planned for the original Switch.

The two big titles we know about are Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Pokémon Legends: Z-A, which are expected to be released at some point in 2025. Outside of this, there’s Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition and the recently released Donkey Kong Country Returns HD.

While it appeared as if these might be the last major first party games for the Switch, an insider claims there’s one ‘big game’ yet to be announced.

In a post on Famiboards, known leaker PH Brazil clarified comments he made on the O X do Controle podcast, where he teased there’ll be one ‘final big game’ that is a ‘new version of a niche beloved franchise’.

‘It’s one game,’ he wrote in a post to address confusion. ‘I’m talking about a single new game in that podcast. There’s no ‘new version of a niche beloved franchise’ separate from a ‘final big game’.’ He went onto clarify that it isn’t a remaster either.

There’s no indication of what the game could be, but he does claim it will be announced during a Nintendo Direct in February, which will be focused on games for the current console. At the time of writing, Nintendo has only announced a Direct on April 2, 2025 for the Switch 2.

Nintendo has usually held a Nintendo Direct in February (although last year’s was a Partner Direct), so it’s certainly possible we could see another this year – especially to showcase Metroid Prime 4: Beyond or announce previously rumoured ports like Kirby: Planet Robobot.

Pokémon Legends: Z-A, meanwhile, is expected to be shown during the annual Pokémon Presents showcase, which is usually held on February 27 aka Pokémon Day.

As for what the unannounced game could be, a new Fire Emblem would certainly fit the ‘niche beloved franchise’ description, although it’s only been two years since the last entry Fire Emblem Engage. There’s also long dormant series like F-Zero, Chibi-Robo, Golden Sun, Kid Icarus, Star Fox, or something like Punch-Out!!

While it’s best to remain sceptical in regards to these rumours, PH Brazil has been accurate in the past about Nintendo Direct timeframes – so we’ll simply have to wait and see if another presentation is announced.

If you’re more interested in anything Switch 2, you can now register for the chance to play the console early at various events starting in April.
