Project Resistance Gameplay Trailer Revealed at TGS 2019

Several days ago, Capcom dropped the first trailer for its upcoming Resident Evil game, Resistance. The initial trailer was short, but it was obvious that the upcoming installment is not a mainline Resident Evil game. Now, Capcom has released a new gameplay trailer for Project Resistance at the 2019 Tokyo Show, revealing more details as to what the game is actually about.

The Tokyo Game Show preview of Project Resistance confirmed that the game will implement a 4v1 multiplayer structure that is similar to such as Friday the 13th: The Game. The trailer showed the four characters, who have already appeared on a previously leaked Project Resistance photo. The characters are named and have their own specializations, which makes earlier rumors that a character creation tool would be included in the upcoming game unlikely.

The four members of the team include Tyrone, who takes reduced damage, Valerie, who serves as the team’s healer, Samuel, who brings the greatest damage to enemies, and January, a hacker that is skilled in disabling security systems. The trailer indicates that the game is set in a top-secret laboratory on the outskirts of Raccoon City. Of course, Resident Evil fans would know that the Spencer Mansion and the Arklay Research Center are some of Umbrella’s secret labs outside of the city, but the area shown in the trailer appears to be a new location entirely.

The goal of the game is for the four characters to band together and survive the twisted experiment orchestrated by the character described as the Mastermind, who unleashes terrifying monsters to the survivors. The trailer suggests that four players take the role of the survivors, while one assumes the role of the Mastermind. While the survivors have their own unique abilities and strengths, the Mastermind will be able to plan his attack on the survivors by using traps, releasing enemies, turning off lights, locking doors, and controlling bio-weapons.

Just from the looks of the gameplay trailer alone, it appears that Project Resistance will bring a new way to experience survival-horror. Currently, Capcom still hasn’t revealed a release date for the game, but it will conduct a closed beta from October 4th to October 7th.

Project Resistance is currently in development for unspecified platforms.
