Red Dead Redemption 2 Will Be Best Selling Game of 2018, Says NPD | Gaming

Fall is just around the corner which means that the biggest video games of the year will soon be available to purchase. Although the annual Call of Duty and Battlefield games are sure to make a big splash, Red Dead Redemption 2 is the title on everyone’s minds. The game launches with only two months left in 2018, but some experts think it is still a lock for best-selling game of the year.

It may not be possible to know exactly how many copies of each game and console are going to sell this holiday shopping season, but many experts are pretty good at making accurate predictions. The NPD Group recently released its holiday predictions, including the top 10 best selling games of the year. It doesn’t come as much of a surprise at all to see Rockstar’s upcoming Red Dead Redemption 2 rounding out the top of that prestigious list.

The report did indicate that the holiday market is more unpredictable than usual this year, but still had this to say about the top of the rankings…

“In a very tight race, Red Dead Redemption 2 will edge out Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 to be both the best-selling game of Q4, and 2018’s best-selling game of the year. Battlefield V, NBA 2K19 and Far Cry 5 will round out the year’s top 5 best-sellers list.”

Red Dead Redemption 2 Special Edition backlash Rockstar Games

It may seem a bit surprising that two game of the year contenders, God of War and Spider-Man, don’t crack the top five; but that is just because the games are PS4 exclusive and don’t have the same potential for purchase across multiple platforms. With that in mind, it is still impressive to see both of those games get a spot on the list between six and ten.

It will be very exciting to see how the holiday sales play out and see if there are any surprises that break into the top of the list. At this point, it seems unwise to bet against Red Dead Redemption 2.

Red Dead Redemption 2 releases October 26, 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One.
