In that vein, I’ve compressed the main storyline of the series into five minutes, so you can brush up on your lore before you start playing Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. Or just for fun! I don’t tell you what to do!
The draw of Assassin’s Creed is beautiful historical playgrounds, but if we’re looking at why these games exist, we have to admit that the connecting thread is predominantly in the modern-day storyline. It should go without saying, but this video contains massive spoilers for almost every Assassin’s Creed game.
Almost every game — because some of them don’t matter. Hear me out, folks. Some of these games, despite being good, don’t push the story forward in any meaningful way.
In Assassin’s Creed Unity, for example — a game that I famously enjoyed for some reason — the plot is that the Assassins are looking for the body of a Sage so that the Templars can’t get his DNA, but then they find that body, and it’s so decomposed that the DNA is useless, so everything is OK. Cool!
Please leave your arguments for why I should have included the games that I left out in the comments below. And don’t forget to subscribe to Polygon for more!
