Uncharted Movie In ‘Advanced Development’ Says Sony CEO

The  movie has hit its share of road bumps, including that of finding its Nathan Drake as well as landing a director. However, now the pieces seem to be in place, as the chairman and CEO of Pictures Entertainment has confirmed that the Uncharted movie is further along the development process

As mentioned previously, the Uncharted movie has struggled through its phases of development. Mark Wahlberg had been rumored to play the quippy treasure hunter for upwards of five years, but once the Uncharted movie lost Mark Wahlberg, many expressed doubt in the development of the movie.

Since the movie has found its director in Dan Trachtenberg and the announcement of the Uncharted movie signing on Tom Holland, who portrays Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, all seems to be going well for the most part. This has been largely confirmed by Sony Pictures Entertainment CEO Tony Vinciquerra, who states that the film is now in “advanced development.”

The movie is said to be inspired by the sequences featuring Nathan Drake as a teenager in 2011’s Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. This approach is reasonable, given Holland’s youth and Nathan Drake-like quirks displayed in his performance as Peter Parker.

Nearly a year ago, an Uncharted short film was released online starring Nathan Fillion, who had long been favored by fans to play Nathan Drake in an Uncharted movie. The short film received much praise, including that from the movie’s director, who said the film was “really spectacular.” The short film’s director previously hinted that, as per his film’s success, there may be a digital series or some other extension of the original movie down the way.

Regarding Vinciquerra’s remarks, many are likely to be thrilled by this announcement. The phrase “advanced development” is slightly vague, as it does not specifically denote where the movie’s production is currently. However, given the Uncharted film’s unfortunate development history, things seem to be moving in a positive direction. We will keep you updated as more details about the Uncharted movie are revealed.
