Roush Rolls Out 2019 Stage 3 Mustang With 710 HP | Feature

With the Shelby GT500 still to come, the most powerful version of the Mustang that Ford currently offers is the GT350 with its 526 horsepower (392 kW) and 429 lb-ft (582 Nm) of torque. That's a lot of muscle, but it's still a far cry from the 797 hp (594 kW) and 707 lb-ft (958 Nm) offered by the Dodge Challenger in SRT Hellcat Redeye spec. So what's a Blue Oval pony-car fan to do?

Turn to the aftermarket, that's what. And there's fortunately no shortage of tuners eager to massage the Mustang. Like Roush, for example, which has just announced a 700-plus-horsepower upgrade of its own.

The 2019 Roush Stage 3 Mustang bolts an Eaton R2650 supercharger (with a custom inlet) to its 5.0-liter V8 to produce a massive 710 hp (529 kW) and 610 lb-ft (827 Nm) of torque – just like the JackHammer released last year. That's an extra 250 hp (186 kW) over the 460 hp (343 kW) with which the Mustang GT comes stock – or as Autoblog puts it, about a Focus ST's worth of added output.

Fortunately Roush has packed other enhancements into its latest Stage 3 kit to help keep all that power under control. There's a new set of coilovers (available with three-way adjustability), a new set of 20-inch alloys, an optional adaptive exhaust system, a fresh aero kit, and a smattering of interior enhancements.

Enticed? Roush is taking pre-orders now for the package that starts at $22,925 and comes backed by a three-year/36,000-mile bumper-to-bumper warranty, with five years and 60,000 miles of coverage for powertrain components. Of course, you'll need a Mustang GT to serve as the basis, which itself starts at $35,190. So assuming you start with a brand-new donor car, you'll be looking at upwards of $58,115 – just north of the $57,240 sticker on the Shelby GT350, a little less than Dodge charges for a similarly potent (717-hp) Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat, and well short of the $71,045 you'll have to dish out for the the more potent Redeye.
