Google Introduces Gemini Nano AI for Pixel 8 Series
Google released its Gemini Nano AI model for the Pixel 8 and 8a following its teaser in March.
The June Pixel release will provide developers with an AI model. The update also adds Display Port connectivity for the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a, reverse phone number search for unknown numbers, Pixel Watch 2 fall and crash detection, and Pixel tablet doorbell notifications.
Google Pixel 8 Update
In the Recorder app, the Gemini Nano should give extensive transcription summaries. Google has not disclosed the properties of the AI model.
Other Pixel Drop improvements include display connection compatibility via the USB-C connection, allowing for wider screen viewing. Users may now check the call history for unknown numbers using a reverse phone number lookup. For this service, Google may use its caller ID database or a third-party database.
Even when the phone is empty, the Pixel 8, 8 Pro, and 8a smartphones’ Finding My Device feature can now locate a turned-off device for up to 23 hours.
Notably, older and more affordable Pixel smartphones are getting new features. The call log now has a button for reverse phone number searches to find incoming calls. Pixel Fold, Pixel 6, and future variants will have this enhancement, per The Verge.
The Google June Pixel feature drop also improved HDR+ photo compatibility on Pixel 6 and later smartphones, wherein the best photograph is automatically selected, allowing photo “best moment” recognition. However, the Pixel Fold and Pro versions of the Pixel 6, 7, and 8 smartphones will be the only Pixel models to have manual lens selection during shooting.
