What’s coming to Netflix in August | Tips & Tricks

As summer continues to roll along, for many of us the idea of even attempting to go outside to anywhere other than a pool or the beach is crazy. Inside is where the air conditioning is, and that’s way better than heat and humidity.

Besides air conditioning, another thing being inside offers is the chance to binge watch . Whether you want to check out a TV show or movie, as you know there are plenty to choose from.

But as is the case every month, the calendar page turning means some new shows and films will be to the streaming service, while others will depart. What’s ? What’s going? Let’s take a look.

First, the new stuff.

Batman Begins (2005)

After years of getting only campy Batman movies, director Christopher Nolan took a stab at restarting the franchise with a film that had a decidedly darker theme than we were accustomed to. And you know what? It worked.

The film was an excellent origin story for a rebooted Dark Knight, giving us all a different perspective on one of the most popular superheroes ever. A star-studded cast featuring Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Liam Neeson, Morgan Freeman, Katie Holmes and Gary Oldman didn’t hurt, either.

As we all know this movie was followed up by “The Dark Knight (2008)” and “The Dark Knight Rises (2012), both of which are also very highly-regarded. But the film that showed Batman in a new light and got people excited about him again was the first of the trilogy, and it will arrive on Netflix 1.

Million Dollar Baby (2004)

What do you get when you mix a determined woman who wants to box with an old trainer who has little interest in training her? A movie that won four Oscars, and tallied another 63 wins and 83 nominations.

Starring Hillary Swank, Clint Eastwood and Morgan Freeman, this movie is a touching story about people who find each other at the exact right moment in their lives. Maybe they didn’t realize it at the time, but soon enough they can’t see life without each other.

Yet, just when things seem to be going well the story takes a tragic turn, leading to even more revelations about their character. This one will be available on Netflix on August 1.

The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)

There are some tales that just resonate, and this is one of them. Based off the books by J.R.R. Tolken, director Peter Jackson brought an incredible story to the big screen.

We follow a huge cast that featured Elijah Wood, Sean Astin, Sean Bean, Cate Blanchett, Orlando Bloom, Ian McKellan, Viggo Mortensen and Hugo Weaving — among many others — as they try to get the one ring to rule them all to Mordor, all while the watchful eye of the Dark Lord Sauron tries to claim it for himself.

This film was followed by “The Two Towers” and “The Return of the King” in its own trilogy, though there were other related movies that came out after. This one will be arriving on Netflix the first day of August.

What else?

Other notable arrivals include “Gran Torino,” “P.S. I Love You,” “Stripes,” “The Aviator” and “No Country for Old Men.” That’s just some of the movies, though.

Netflix originals such as “I am a Killer,” “Like Father” and “Disenchantment,” which is a cartoon from Matt Groening, who you may remember from such shows as “The Simpsons” and “Futurama.”

There will also be new seasons of “Ozark,” “The Good Place” and “Trolls: The Beat Goes On!”
