Sony’s latest TVs have a special NETFLIX mode that makes your favourite films look even better | Top Stories
Sony’s latest flagship TVs have a new mode designed especially for watching Netflix .
The Netflix Calibrated Mode is intended to provide the best picture quality possible for film and TV shows on the streaming service by staying as true to the director’s vision as possible.
Developed by Sony picture quality engineers in collaboration with Netflix colour scientists, the mode is said to be particularly effective on visually spectacular shows like Lost in Space or Stranger Things.
Netflix Calibrated Mode will be available exclusively on the Sony BRAVIA MASTER Series AF9 OLEDs and ZF9 LCDs.
Viewers can activate the mode using one simple menu setting, says Netflix.
“While recently watching Lost in Space , I was struck by the vivid landscapes: lush forests, shadowed snowfields, and other visual elements that pulled me more deeply into the Robinsons’ adventures,” said Scott Mirer, Vice President, Device Partner Ecosystem at Netflix.
“We can’t wait for our members around the world watching on Sony’s new BRAVIA MASTER Series TVs to get this fantastic experience and – for the very first time – to deliver studio quality picture mastering to the living room with Netflix Calibrated Mode.”
The new 4K HDR TVs will run Android TV and will also support both Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant as well as Google Assistant voice control.
According to Sony, the new panels offer “the highest quality picture possible in a home setting”.

Along with precise colours and accurate contrast, the TVs sport a true motion feature to banish the ‘soap opera effect’. This is where technology designed to reduce image blur ends up making high-quality content look like a cheap soap opera.
Netflix Calibrated Mode will work on any content from the streaming service including, but limited to, 4K and HDR films and TV.
Pricing and precise launch dates for the new TVs have yet to be announced, though the new panels are expected to land in autumn.
