Cork gardaí take part in critical incident exercise
Gardaí in Cork have taken part in a critical incident simulation exercise at University College Cork’s ASSERT training, research and innovation centre.
It is their first exercise at the state-of-the-art ASSERT centre, which uses technology-enhanced learning and virtual reality-based training.
The exercise replicated a hospital emergency department with ill, injured and intoxicated patients, and recorded and measured the response of participating gardaí to a scenario of escalating risk and threat and assessed their responses.

Event co-ordinator, Sergeant Peter Murphy, of Anglesea Street garda station in Cork, said the exercise was designed to strengthen the Garda’s operational capabilities through immersive simulation training.
He described the opportunity to stage the simulation at the ASSERT Centre as unique.
