OVO launches crowdfunding campaign for flood victims of Greater Jakarta

Indonesia’s leading fintech firm OVO has launched a crowdfunding to help the victims of the massive floods that devastated parts of Greater since last Wednesday.

For aid distribution, OVO has partnered with Grab, Indonesian Red Cross, Baznas, Aksi Cepat Tanggap and Rumah Zakat. Online mutual fund marketplace Bareksa has also expressed its support for this movement as a corporate social responsibility act.

Users can donate by accessing ‘special donations home’ banner on the OVO app. Ride-hailing firm Grab has also pledged to match up to Rp1 billion for the donations thus collected.

The disbursement will be focused on survey and evacuation team, staple food, baby food, medicines, and other vital needs.

Karaniya Dharmasaputra, President Director OVO, said: “As a digital financial platform that serves Indonesia, we facilitate users seeking to aid relief efforts and provide support for the families impacted by the . OVO believes that digital financial services have a massive potential to democratise welfare, including disaster response efforts.”

Ginandjar Kartasasmita, Daily Executor-Chairperson of Indonesian Red Cross, added, “The donations are expected to encourage an embedded habit of donating to increase responsiveness towards disaster prevention. Mitigating the current situation in Greater Jakarta, PMI has deployed several teams conducting evacuation, assistance, and emergency posts in areas.”

From 2017, OVO has conducted crowdfunding for disaster relief efforts in various affected areas, including Palu, Central Sulawesi and Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.
