Battlefield V Beta is Censoring the Words ‘White Man’ | Gaming News

The perfect source for uptodate

The  V open multiplayer has been going on for a couple of days now, and it has been the source of some controversy. Not only has the been accused by some veteran Battlefield fans of being “too slow” and guns running out of ammo too fast, but the profanity filter seems to be out of whack, phrases like “ ” and “DLC.”

The problem was discovered by users on Reddit, when they realized the “white man” would result in asterisks when writing it in the in-game chat box. As previously stated, the word “DLC” is also censored by the profanity filter in Battlefield V‘s open beta, but players can apparently write “free DLC” without any kind of censorship. It’s worth pointing out that one of the main selling points for Battlefield V is its “free DLC,” which has fueled some speculation that the profanity filter is censoring these words on purpose.

However, EA has since responded to the controversy and has confirmed that the profanity filter is simply not working as intended right now, and will be tweaked for the full release. According to EA, the profanity filter isn’t just censoring words and phrases that it shouldn’t be, but it’s also failing to censor words and phrases that the team actually wants censored in the chat, so it seems that there’s still a lot of work to do with it.

Despite EA’s explanation, some players will still think that there are some ulterior motives to Battlefield V‘s profanity filter. After all, the game has become somewhat polarizing in terms of politics, with some people complaining about the use of female characters in the game being “historically inaccurate.” The words “white man” being censored could add fuel to that fire, as some may think that EA or DICE did it on purpose.

However, that doesn’t appear to be the case, and it seems like a genuine error on the part of the profanity filter. Fans should be able to expect the full release of Battlefield V in November to come with a profanity filter that is functioning properly.

Battlefield V launches November 20 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
