Cyberpunk 2077 Design Director Role Filled by Witcher 3
It’s been a year since Cyberpunk 2077 shocked and awed its audience with a gameplay demo of CD Projekt Red’s latest project at E3 2018, and everyone is likely excited that the developer has confirmed its return to E3 2019. It’s uncertain what could be learned as a result of its presence at the event, but it will be interesting to see if there are any changes due to the recent addition of a new design director.
For those not in the know, there have been some internal changes going on at CD Projekt Red, with the director of Witcher 3 and its expansions, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, taking up the mantle of design director for Cyberpunk 2077 and vice president of game development at the company. He is filling the roles following Cyberpunk 2077‘s former creative director Sebastian Stepien’s departure from the company to join Blizzard on a currently unannounced project.
Tomaszkiewicz’s promotion was revealed via an update of his LinkedIn page, confirming his role in the aforementioned positions. Because of the technical difference in Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3, it’s uncertain how this will impact development. It could impact it very little or it could result in some major changes, but since the internal on-goings are not exactly known.
Considering the immense popularity behind The Witcher 3, though, it would seem safe to say that Cyberpunk 2077 is in good hands. After all, there’s been a potential release date tease from the company not too long ago, so it doesn’t appear as if that there will be any real loss in momentum, especially if this tease comes to fruition.
Cyberpunk 2077 still does not have a release date, but it does have a lead design director. If this change-up has had some negative impact on the development, CD Projekt Red has done a swell job covering those issues. Regardless, the hype train behind Cyberpunk 2077 has not slowed, and many eyes will be on the game come E3 2019.
