Internet’s Bowsette Obsession Replaced by Guitarist Rosalina | Gaming News
For the past month, the Internet has been obsessed with Bowsette, a fan-created character inspired by a power-up in New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe that transforms Toadette into “Peachette.” However, it seems as though Nintendo fans have moved on to a new “obsession,” this time over the character Rosalina, who is getting attention lately due to an alternate look of hers that was almost featured in Super Mario Odyssey.

In the book The Art of Mario Odyssey (which also revealed that Nintendo actually considered an official “Bowsette”-style character for the game), there is some concept art for a redesigned Rosalina sporting indie rock-inspired attire and using a guitar. As we saw with Bowsette, Rosalina’s new look that was apparently scrapped from Super Mario Odyssey has spawned a seemingly endless stream of fan art dedicated to the character.
A quick visit to Twitter will reveal countless drawings of Rosalina and her guitar, but here are a few that caught our eye:

the poor man: “bowsette was almost canon!!!”
the thinking man: “casual rosalina playing the guitar was almost canon”

It’s unclear why Nintendo decided to cut guitarist Rosalina from Super Mario Odyssey, but perhaps it’s due to how different the character looks compared to past incarnations. Usually Rosalina is seen wearing a long blue dress and carrying a magic wand instead of a black t-shirt and a guitar, so perhaps Nintendo was worried fans wouldn’t take to the redesigned look.
So far, Rosalina’s look has been pretty consistent throughout her video game appearances since her Super Mario Galaxy debut over a decade ago, but that doesn’t mean Nintendo isn’t open to giving her alternate looks in the future. In fact, it’s possible that the buzz surrounding this indie rocker look could see it added as an alternate costume for Rosalina in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate or something along those lines.
Or maybe Nintendo will save this new look for a future Super Mario game, or add it to Super Mario Odyssey as DLC. After all, Super Mario Odyssey still gets DLC updates every now and again, like Luigi’s Balloon World and a number of new costumes. Whether or not any of this comes to pass remains to be seen, but perhaps indie rocker Rosalina will still make her debut just yet.
Super Mario Odyssey is out now, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
