Original Valkyria Chronicles Coming To Nintendo Switch | Gaming News

It looks like tactical RPG aficionados will have plenty to play on their Nintendo Switch the next couple of months. Not only will Valkyria Chronicles 4 be giving the franchise its debut on Nintendo hardware for the first time at the end of the month, but the first game in the series, Valkyria Chronicles, will also be available on the eShop shortly afterward.
Sega is double dipping on its World War II tactical RPG for the Nintendo Switch by re-releasing the first game in the series less than a month after its fourth entry. Players looking to see how the franchise got its start can find Valkyria Chronicles on the eShop on October 16 for just $19.99.
Sega confirmed that Valkyria Chronicles would be making its way to the Switch during PAX West along with all of its DLC. An extra perk was also announced for those that purchased Valkyria Chronicles 4 beforehand. Anyone who has Valkyria Chronicles 4 in their library will also receive a $5 discount on the original game via the eShop. This promotion will only run for a limited time from October 16 to December 17.
Unfortunately, this version of the game will not be the remastered version that appeared on the PlayStation 4 a couple years back. Valkyria Chronicles originally launched on the PlayStation 3 back in 2008 and Sega released a remastered version back in 2016. Even though the Valkyria Chronicles series has been seen in portable form before with two middle entries finding a home on the PSP, Valkyria Chronicles 4 is the first time the series has been on a Nintendo console. A demo for Valkyria Chronicles 4 is currently available on the Nintendo Switch for anyone looking to try out the game ahead of time.
Even though the original Valkyria Chronicles might slip under the radar for most gamers this fall, it will likely please fans who are jumping into this series for the first time and looking to dive even deeper into the franchise’s history. While it is unfortunate that it is not the remastered version, being able to take the title on the go will likely be incentive enough for Switch owners to dish out a little extra money.
Valkyria Chronicles 4 will be released for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on September 25, 2018.
