After three incredibly long years of anticipation, the World Cup will finally return in 2023. With League players holding out hope for esports, the major international tournament for the FPS game has been lacking for the last three years.

Blizzard has revealed the Overwatch World Cup 2023 schedule

The next Overwatch World Cup is scheduled to begin in June 2023, with regional qualifications being held to select the top 16 teams that would participate in the Group Stage and Finals in the fall of 2023.

The participating countries and regions will be revealed by Blizzard in January when it will also launch the application process for competition authority. In accordance with Blizzard regulations, it will be the duty of every competition committee to plan tryouts for their country and region.

Moreover, Blizzard is introducing an entirely new opportunity for players to compete for a seat on their team in addition to conventional tryouts. This takes the form of World Cup Trials, an open tournament format. The World Cup Trials tournament in February 2023 will give the top competitors a straight invitation to their team’s trials. Players can still register for the normal tryouts that will be held in March. Though a competitive rank of Diamond or above will be required for regular tryouts.

The Overwatch World Cup qualifiers are scheduled to take place through regional online competition in June once team rosters have been confirmed, reducing the field of 36 teams to 16 for the subsequent round of the tournament. Later, in the fall of 2023, those 16 teams will compete against one another in a LAN setting to crown the first World Cup winner after 2019.

To commemorate the return of the Overwatch World Cup 2023, gamers will receive special challenges and rewards in the next year. So Overwatch players may thus look forward to a tonne of new content next year.
