Super Smash Bros. Ultimate: How to Unlock Roy

Unfortunately for fans of Roy who want to play as him right away, he's not one of the starting eight characters that Super Smash bros. ultimate players have to choose to from. To play as Roy in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, players will have to unlock him, and there are a few different ways to do that in the game.

One way players can unlock Roy in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is by playing through the World of Light story mode. However, this method will be time-consuming, and so we don't recommend it. Alternatively, players can keep playing Vs mode until Roy eventually unlocks, and there have been reports that fighting against Lucario in Vs mode will lead to an automatic Roy appearance. We were unable to replicate that method in our own testing, however.

Perhaps the easiest way to unlock Roy in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is by playing Classic Mode. There are differing reports online about how exactly to unlock Roy using the Classic Mode method, but one route seems to be working for fans more than the others.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate players should try beating Classic with Mario, which will unlock an encounter with Sonic the Hedgehog. From there, beat Classic with Sonic, then Bayonetta, Little Mac, Ike, and Luigi. After clearing Classic with Luigi, Roy should appear. Other reports online suggest Roy can be unlocked by just beating Classic with Ike, so players that already have Ike are free to try that out as well
