The Last Remnant Remastered is Available Now for Switch PlayStation 4
Square Enix’s E3 conference was filled with tons of JRPG announcements. With major franchises such as Final Fantasy taking up most of those reveals, the announcement of The Last Remnant for Nintendo Switch came as a surprise to many. What was even more surprising about the reveal is the game is available right now to download on the Nintendo eShop.
The Last Remnant first released on Xbox 360 back in 2008. A PC version of the game was released shortly after, before the PS3 version of the game was canceled back in 2009. The remastered version arrived first on PS4 last year, shortly following the unfortunate news that the game was being delisted from Steam.
When it launched, The Last Remnant received “okay” scores, with most media outlets voicing concerns about the game’s poor graphical design. The PS4 remaster cleaned up most of these issues, however it didn’t seem to garner too much of a presence in terms of sales when the game launched. Given the popularity of the Nintendo Switch and the proven fact of ports and remasters selling just as well, if not better than they have on other platforms, bringing the cult classic JRPG to the console seems like a no brainer.
The Last Remnant Remastered wasn’t the only remaster to make a splash for Square Enix at this year’s E3. After rumors began to surface over the past few days, Final Fantasy 8 Remastered was revealed for later this year across various platforms, as well as Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles Remastered for mobile devices.
Of course the biggest remaster/remake news came from Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which offered extensive details on how combat works, while showing off footage of the game’s first boss fight. Other news included the game’s release date, and reveals for Tifa and Sephiroth. The first chapter in the remake will launch in March 2020.
Square Enix also revealed its new IP Outriders, while finally showing footage for Crystal Dynamic’s new Marvel’s Avengers game. The latter will act as a 4-player cooperative action-adventure title that will see new characters and regions added for free, and will release next May.
The Last Remnant Remastered is available now for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.
