Facebook to Match Up to $20M in Donations for Coronavirus Relief Efforts

The network also reaffirmed that 100% of money raised on Facebook and Instagram goes directly to the organizations.

CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post Friday, “A lot of people have told us that they want to help fight but aren’t sure how, so we’ve worked with the United Nations Foundation and the World Health Organization to start a Covid-19 Solidarity Response Fund, where anyone can go to make a donation.”

The initiative had already raised over $300,000 within its first two-plus hours of going live.

Facebook said the WHO will use the to track and understand the spread of the coronavirus; to ensure that patients get the necessary care and frontline workers have access to supplies and information; and to accelerate efforts to develop vaccines, tests and treatments.

And the upcoming initiative from the CDC Foundation will focus on directly aiding public health responders in local communities in the U.S., as well as creating education campaigns and other efforts.
