Windows 10 Task Manager Open to a Specific Tab

Task Manager is the system monitoring tool that’s built into Windows. It allows you to monitor several aspects of the operating system and your computer’s hardware. It has received several updates and gotten more features over the years; namely with Windows 10. In fact, with build 1809 it got a couple of new columns that help you better monitor app power use.

While it is chock full of great system info, by default it opens to the Processes tab. That’s good if you are looking for an app or service to kill because it’s spiking your CPU and eating RAM. But you might be interested in a different tab such as Performance and want to make it the default. Starting with Windows 10 version 1903 you can set it to do just that. Here is a look at how you can make it open to the Processes tab or whatever tab you use the most.

Set Default Tab for Task Manager on Windows 10

To set the default tab, open task manager from the Start screen or right-click the taskbar and select Task Manager. Then when it opens, go to Options > Set default tab and choose the one you want as the default from the list.

That’s all there is to it. Now each time you launch task manager it will open to the tab that contains the information you want the most. Personally, I set it to open to the Performance tab as it contains important diagnostic information. It’s actually the tab you want to look at to see how long your Windows 10 PC has been up and running.

This might seem like a small improvement, and in the grand scheme of things, it really is. But Microsoft continues to improve all aspects of Windows 10 with each major release. And in the end, it’s the small things that make all the difference. If you’re a tech admin or the family tech support, this slight improvement to Task Manager will make your job a lot easier.
