Fallout 76 Fan Tricks Players With ‘Deathclaw Maze’ Trap
The versatility of Fallout 76‘s C.A.M.P. system is shown in all its brilliant glory in aswiftkickinthejunk’s latest nefarious project. The Fallout 76 content creator has put together something they call the “Deathclaw Maze,” a dastardly trap disguised as an amusement. swift invites other survivors into the maze disguised as a robed carnival attendant and then shuts the door behind them, trapping them inside. What at first seems like a maze quickly reveals its true nature: a labyrinth with a hostile Deathclaw at its center.
swift, who is known for their morbid creations built entirely in Fallout 76‘s highly customizable C.A.M.P. system, says that they’ve long wanted to create a maze of sorts, but couldn’t figure out a fun way of taking the maze to the next level. They then remembered a fun mechanic tied to tamed creatures like Deathclaws, which was that they are immediately hostile to all other players.
What happens in the Deathclaw Maze is expected, but yet amazing to see in motion. Since swift is well-practiced in creating their death traps anymore, they’ve lined the maze with a catwalk so they can watch the events inside the maze for themselves. The resulting YouTube video is filled with the adventures of those survivors brave enough to trust a man in a robe, slippers, and tophat motioning towards a giant metal structure with a neon sign that says “THE MAZE” on the front.
For those worried that swift’s maze might be a bit too cruel, they have a comforting message. With the way PvP works in Fallout 76, combined with how damage scaling works, not a single player actually died in the Deathclaw Maze. They might take a bit more damage if they fight back against the Deathclaw and activate PvP, though. What swift doesn’t mention is if the maze has an exit; there’s no footage of anyone escaping in the video.
What swift’s video and creations do is showcase an aspect of Fallout 76 that arguably doesn’t receive as much attention as it deserves. The C.A.M.P. system is somewhat ungainly and difficult to get the hang of, but when mastered it can result in very impressive creations. swift shows just how those creations can fit seamlessly into the world of Fallout 76, even in starter regions. A bit of roleplaying using costumes and emotes is the icing on the cake.
While opinions on Fallout 76 may be divided, there’s no denying that it offers a unique appeal with its post-apocalyptic setting and sense of humor.
Fallout 76 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
