Someone Played Mario Kart on a Baseball Stadium

Someone was caught playing Mario Kart on Kauffman Stadium’s CrownVision display, but it turns out, the way this came to pass was quite admirable.

The footage was captured by Kansas City KCTV5’s helicopter while en route to a different assignment, but the crew noticed the game being played on this particularly massive screen used by the Kansas City Royals in the process. Tom Martin of KCTV5 tweeted the footage, causing it to go viral.

Though the screen is definitely not in the ideal 16:9 aspect ratio that HD games are typically displayed, the screen is still massive. The footage captured what appears to have been a victory lap sequence following a race on the Mario Kart Stadium track in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

While many wondered how anyone managed to hook up a console to the CrownVision display and start playing, it turns out it was for a noble cause: the Royals Charities associated with the team auctions off the opportunity to use the display as part of a regular charitable fundraiser. In fact, it appears a tournament was being held and the proceeds of the fundraiser went to help children and military families in some capacity.
