Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Mod Adds Master Chief
Now that Banjo-Kazooie is coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, anything seems possible. While fans have a long list of characters that they wish would be officially added to the competitive brawler, they’ll have to settle for mods of the characters with a close association to Nintendo’s competitors. Luckily, a modder by the name of Demonslayerx8 has fans of everyone’s favorite Xbox super-soldier covered.
A new mod adds Halo’s Master Chief to Super Smash Bros Ultimate, and it actually looks very impressive, especially for a mod. The character model is very well detailed, and the animations flow together without any major clipping issues. The mod doesn’t add an entire move set for Spartan-117, it’s simply a remodel of Snake, but the moves do seem pretty similar to what an official character DLC would be like.
Nintendo announced that Banjo-Kazooie is coming to Smash Bros. Ultimate during their Nintendo Direct at E3 2019, and pretty much any character has seemed possible since then, given that the rights to Banjo-Kazooie are owned by Microsoft. Master Chief really doesn’t seem that far-fetched, especially now that a new Halo game is on the horizon. It would be a great way for Microsoft to introduce the character to an entirely new audience, even though he is one of the most recognizable characters in the games industry.
While Master Chief is still a possibility now that Nintendo and Microsoft have such a strong relationship, he likely won’t make it into Smash Bros Ultimate. A seemingly-credible roster of the remaining DLC characters has already leaked, though it’s always possible that the two companies could make a surprise announcement. Regardless, it’s cool seeing Master Chief in a Switch game, even if it isn’t an official version.
Of course, this isn’t the first time the Chief has been added to a fighting game. Master Chief was also added to Jump Force with a mod, though that game hasn’t had the impact that the Smash Bros. franchise has. However, it is great to see modders take the time to add their favorite characters to any games.
