Inside the cube… is the inside of a cube.
Update 08/29/18: The cube still seems to be empty but is now surrounded by a low-gravity dome, which appears to have the added effect of slowly increasing the shields of anyone who walks inside it. In addition, the base of the cube now glows pink. There’s still no official word from Epic, but you can see the dome in this tweet:
For anyone wondering what secrets are hiding inside Fortnite’s mysterious purple cube, the answer has been revealed: there’s nothing there.
The news comes courtesy of Reddit user Gsonicfy, who managed to breach the cube through a happy accident; a collision with a teammate and a clipping glitch led to the player ending up actually inside the cube, where he found . . . the inside of a purple cube.
Since this was seemingly a glitch rather than an intentional entry, it’s not surprising that there doesn’t seem to be anything there; whether something will appear over time or whether the cube is a harbinger of something else remains to be seen. Whatever the final outcome, the cube has started slowly moving across the map, with no clear indication of where it’s heading.
The cube’s been confusing players for a few days now. Following a series of lightning strikes in Paradise Palms, the giant rift created by Season 4’s rocket launch event finally closed – but not before unleashing one final lightning bolt that birthed the cube.
Given that the ends of previous Fortnite seasons have resolved mysteries – Season 3 had the meteor crash while Season 4 got a rocket launch – it’s worth keeping your eyes peeled over the next few days – the saga of the cube definitely has a way to go before it’s done.
