Destiny 2: How to Guarantee Iron Banner Weapon Drops
The second Iron Banner of Destiny 2 Season 7 is live and yet again players have an opportunity to collect the new armor and weapons available from the Crucible event. However, for many Destiny 2 players, the focus is on getting Iron Banner weapons, specifically the Swarm of the Raven grenade launcher.
In order to get the Swarm of the Raven grenade launcher from Iron Banner players will need to rely on RNG from rank up packages or post-game rewards. There is no surefire way to get the Swarm of the Raven or any of Destiny 2’s Iron Banner weapons, but there is a way to guarantee that an IB drop is a weapon and not armor.
With Season 7, Bungie introduced an Iron Banner quest that requires completing a bunch of different objectives within the PvP activity. For each step that players complete they will unlock an armor piece, which will then be added to their Iron Banner loot pool. And by the time the quest is complete – here is how to cheese the Iron Banner quest – they will have a full loot pool that includes everyone armor piece and weapon.
But, if players are focused on Iron Banner weapons like the Swarm of the Raven they can avoid oversaturating their loot pool by skipping the quest. As long as no Iron Banner quest steps are completed, post-game drops and rank up packages will only reward weapons. Admittedly, there are still a ton of different Iron Banner weapons available so there is no guarantee that Swarm of the Raven will regularly drop, but the odds are better if Destiny 2 players don’t complete the IB quest. Not to mention, players want spike grenades on Swarm for the extra PvE damage.
That being said, there is also value to completing the Iron Banner quest if players don’t care about weapons or if they already have a Swarm of the Raven with spike grenades. Iron Banner armor is one of the few armor types that can roll with Enhanced perks like Enhanced Hand Cannon targeting, which is like a stronger version of the basic perk. Since there are very few armor categories that can have enhanced perks, Iron Banner is a great way to farm that gear.
Ultimately, whether or not players want to complete the Iron Banner quest depends on what they are looking for. If it’s weapons then save it for later, or not at all, but if it’s useful gear then get to grinding.
